Bureau Veritas (BV) China has signed a technical consultancy agreement with Hong Kong based Pacific Gas for the development and modernization of liquefied gas carriers. The deal, inked in Shanghai, sets out a framework for greater collaboration on vessel retrofitting and technology innovation.
The collaboration will develop technical solutions that are safe and commercially viable. The two companies will join forces to develop implementation strategies for modifications on gas carriers, with the ultimate goal of accelerating the green transition and digitalization throughout the entire value chain of gas transportation.
Pacific Gas is an international shipping company and a full-service gas transportation provider that deals with a diverse array of clean energy products and their associated by-products. The company’s activities put it in a market in significant transition as the global energy transition alters demand for specialized gas shipping services.
The push to cleaner fuels has resulted in an increased range of requirements for the transportation of liquefied gas in recent years. Therefore, the industry is moving to Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs) and retrofitting of existing gas vessels.
Bureau Veritas and Pacific Gas realize that the long-term and comprehensive framework of cooperation is important from above. The collaboration will focus on technology innovation for gas carriers, feasibility studies for vessel retrofits and the development of digital services. The deal also demonstrates the need to adapt to evolving geopolitical conditions and trends in clean energy markets.
The partnership will see the two companies work together in a number of key areas such as technical consultancy, retrofitting technology advisory services, professional training, market expansion and brand collaboration.
The new partnership combines BV China’s expertise and commercial capabilities with those of Pacific Gas to help pursue new business opportunities and consolidate their positions in the gas transportation sector. The agreement aims to achieve mutual benefits and foster the development of safer, more efficient and increasingly sustainable shipping solutions for liquefied gas carriers.
