China has launched the China Multimodal Transport Development Alliance in Beijing, marking a new step in the modernization of the country’s logistics system.
The alliance was co-founded by several major Chinese transport and logistics groups, including China State Railway Group, Cosco Shipping, China Merchants Group, China Logistics Group, and China Data Logistics Information Co.
A total of 66 companies and institutions have joined as inaugural members, covering railways, shipping, ports, road transport, integrated logistics, and logistics research.
Chinese authorities view the alliance as a major milestone in the development of high-quality multimodal transport and the reduction of overall logistics costs.
China State Railway Group said the initiative will help optimize transport structures, improve logistics coordination, and support the development of a more efficient national logistics system.
Three specialized cooperation platforms will be created under the alliance:
* a rail-water transport platform;
* a rail-road transport platform;
* and a technological innovation platform.
Cosco Shipping, one of the key participants, has already played an important role in the development of China’s intermodal corridors. The company is involved in many of the 360 rail-water freight routes already launched across the country.
The alliance is expected to expand cooperation between transport operators, strengthen coordination, improve operational efficiency, and support China’s long-term industrial and trade ambitions.
For China, the initiative is not only about infrastructure. It is also about building a more integrated logistics ecosystem capable of supporting domestic growth and international trade flows.
