Colonial Terminals has officially opened Foundation 3, a new 25-acre multimodal breakbulk facility along the Savannah River, adding significant capacity and connectivity for bulk and project cargo moving through the Port of Savannah region.
Designed to operate around the clock, the new terminal combines direct vessel access with extensive rail and highway connections. Its infrastructure includes an 810-foot heavy-capacity dock, an onsite rail yard with more than 14,000 feet of track, terminal-operated switching and rail-served warehouse access.
The facility is connected to Class I rail service through Norfolk Southern and provides direct highway connectivity via Interstates 16 and 95. The combination is designed to facilitate efficient transfers between vessels, rail, trucks and warehouse operations.
Foundation 3 also offers substantial storage capacity. The site includes two warehouses totaling 130,000 square feet, one of which is a newly renovated dockside facility. In addition, customers have access to 75,000 square feet of concrete outdoor storage, while adjacent acreage has been set aside to accommodate future expansion.
The terminal is equipped to handle a broad range of cargo, including steel, forest products, project cargo, palletized goods, super sacks and other general cargo. Colonial Terminals is also offering both union and non-union stevedoring services, allowing operations to be tailored to individual customer requirements.
According to Colonial Terminals, the investment is intended to reinforce Savannah’s position not only as a world-class container gateway, but also as a competitive destination for bulk and breakbulk cargo.

Gouger added that the new facility strengthens the company’s ability to provide reliable multimodal solutions while further reinforcing Savannah’s role as a gateway for breakbulk and industrial cargo.
With its combination of dock, rail, warehouse and highway infrastructure, Foundation 3 gives Colonial Terminals an expanded platform for supporting industrial and general cargo flows across the Savannah market.
