Daniels MPV2 in Brampton, Ontario has completed a major solar project at the community scale, delivering renewable energy directly to an all-electric, net-zero condominium townhome community.
The Daniels Corporation, AltCrest Energy and Otter Energy Inc. have successfully installed a 615 kilowatt (kW) DC solar photovoltaic (PV) system that will produce clean electricity onsite with long-term savings on electricity costs for the development.
AltCrest Energy owns the system under an Energy-as-a-Service model. Otter Energy Inc. was the engineering, design and construction partner that delivered the solar installation.
Renewable energy at the heart of a low carbon community
Daniels MPV2 is the first phase of Daniels Corporation’s 19 acre low carbon master-planned community located at Bovaird Drive West and Mississauga Road.
The project contains six blocks of back-to-back stacked townhomes and one block of stacked townhomes.
The townhome blocks have copper colored panels throughout the residential buildings to create a visual connection to the mid-rise condominium buildings of the development.
The larger community comprises two residential towers. The 11-storey West Tower and 14-storey East Tower are connected by a one-storey pavilion, which serves as a hub.
The pavilion has direct access to shared indoor and outdoor amenities, elevators and outdoor pedestrian walkways throughout the community.
As part of the development, Daniels MPV2 will feature a large-scale solar PV system, combining residential construction with onsite renewable energy generation, in line with the project’s objective of creating an all-electric, net-zero community.
The system’s completion also suggests the growing role of community-scale renewable energy in new residential developments, where solar generation can help cut operating costs and also contribute to broader low-carbon building goals.
