Greek shipping group Dynacom Tankers, controlled by shipowner George Procopiou, has returned to Hengli Heavy Industry with an order for four additional very large crude carriers (VLCCs).
The latest contract brings the total number of VLCCs ordered by Dynacom at the Chinese shipyard to 20, making the project one of the largest single-owner VLCC newbuilding programmes in the global shipbuilding industry.
Dynacom had previously expanded its VLCC programme in March 2026, when it signed a contract for four 306,000 dwt VLCCs. That deal took the company’s cumulative VLCC orders at Hengli to 16 vessels before the latest four-ship addition.
The shipowner’s relationship with Hengli extends beyond VLCCs. Dynacom has also contracted nine 158,000 dwt Suezmax crude tankers at the yard. These vessels are scheduled for phased delivery beginning in 2028 and form part of the company’s broader plan to renew and upgrade its crude tanker fleet.
Dynacom has also been expanding into alternative-fuel shipping. In July 2026, the company ordered two 93,000 cubic metre very large ammonia carriers (VLACs) from Hengli.
The ammonia carrier order represents Dynacom’s first batch of zero-carbon ammonia-powered newbuilds at the Chinese yard, with deliveries scheduled for 2028.
The latest VLCC order further reinforces Dynacom’s long-term fleet expansion and renewal strategy while strengthening Hengli Heavy Industry’s position as a key shipbuilding partner for one of the world’s major tanker owners.
