Building on unprecedented growth in ecommerce parcel processing during last year’s peak season, ePost Global has opened an expanded operation near O’Hare International Airport, tripling its footprint in the Chicago area and significantly increasing its capacity to process international parcels and mail.
The new site is now ePost Global’s largest U.S. processing operation for both ecommerce parcels and mail. The expansion is intended to accommodate additional customers, support a wider variety of shipment profiles and handle continued growth in international shipping volumes.
The larger facility also gives the company greater flexibility to scale during peak periods and respond to disruptions across shipping networks.
The timing comes as ePost Global prepares for what it expects to be its busiest peak season yet. Continued increases in customer numbers and shipping volumes had pushed the company’s previous Chicago-area facility to capacity, prompting the move to a larger and more advanced operation capable of supporting further growth without placing volume restrictions on customers.
“Chicago has become our highest-volume U.S. operation, and we reached the point where demand was outgrowing the space,” said Kelly Martinez, Co-President of ePost Global. “Coming off a record year, we’re on track for another record peak season for ePost Global. This gives us the capacity to innovate, scale our operations, and deliver the flexibility and reliability our customers need.”
Broader shipment handling and additional peak capacity
Beyond the increase in overall capacity, the expanded operation enables ePost Global to handle a broader mix of shipment profiles. These include small parcels, poly mailers, flats and larger packages.
The additional space and increased throughput are also designed to give the company more room to manage seasonal surges and periods of network disruption, when available capacity across global shipping networks can come under significant pressure.
“When our customers are ready to grow, their shipping partner needs to be ready to grow with them,” said Fabrizio Alvear, Co-Founder and Co-President of ePost Global. “We are investing ahead of demand so we can accept more volume without imposing artificial limits when capacity matters most. This facility gives us room to serve customers through the coming peak season and continue scaling well beyond it.”
Automation aimed at improving accuracy
The expanded facility combines automated sortation with advanced scanning and tracking technologies. It also incorporates optical character recognition and piece-to-container verification to improve the way shipments are processed.
Together, these systems can identify exceptions in real time, improve sorting accuracy and reduce repeat scanning and manual handling. They also allow a greater number of shipments to move directly from induction into the appropriate outbound container before being sent onward to destination hubs around the world.
The Chicago expansion forms part of ePost Global’s broader, multiyear investment programme covering facility automation, shipment visibility, customer integrations, returns management and other digital capabilities.
By connecting customer, operational and carrier data throughout the shipment journey, the company is developing a more responsive network capable of adapting to changing customer requirements and evolving international shipping conditions.
Strengthening international routing flexibility
The expanded Chicago operation also complements ePost Global’s longstanding relationships with postal operators, commercial carriers and airline partners.
Its diversified carrier network, combined with established air cargo relationships, provides additional capacity assurance, routing flexibility and service continuity across key international lanes. These capabilities are particularly important during peak periods and when disruptions place additional pressure on global shipping networks.
With its Chicago footprint now three times larger, ePost Global is positioning the operation to absorb further ecommerce parcel and mail growth while maintaining the flexibility required during the most demanding periods of the international shipping calendar.
