Golar LNG is moving forward with plans for a third floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) conversion at Singapore-based Seatrium after the two companies signed a Letter of Intent (LoI).
The agreement marks the next stage of cooperation between the two companies and covers technical design development and project definition work. The objective is to reach a final Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract during the second half of 2026.
Third conversion project under consideration
Seatrium said the work covered by the LoI will be supported by an upfront payment, although the amount has not been disclosed.
If the project progresses to a full conversion contract, it would become the third FLNG conversion carried out by Seatrium for Golar LNG.
The Singapore shipyard previously converted the FLNG Hilli Episeyo, which entered service in 2017, followed by the FLNG Gimi in 2023. Both vessels were converted from LNG carriers and remain the only operational units of their type in the world.
Building on previous FLNG experience
The proposed project would allow Seatrium and Golar to build on the experience gained from their earlier conversions while moving toward a more standardised approach to FLNG construction.
Seatrium Energy (Projects) Executive Vice President Marlin Khiew said the company’s previous projects provide a strong foundation for improving execution certainty, accelerating delivery and controlling costs.
A third conversion would further strengthen the relationship between Golar and Seatrium while highlighting the growing role of converted LNG carriers in expanding floating LNG production capacity.
