Lufthansa Cargo is set to enhance its European operations by introducing regular freighter flights between Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Katowice Airport (KTW) in Poland, commencing on April 3, 2025. This strategic move aims to strengthen the airline’s presence in Central and Eastern Europe, catering to the growing demand for air cargo services in the region.

- Frequency: The new service will operate twice weekly, on Thursdays and Saturdays.
- Aircraft: Lufthansa Cargo will deploy its Airbus A321 freighters for this route.
- Timings: Flights are scheduled to depart from Frankfurt at 5:30 PM, arriving in Katowice at 4:00 PM local time.
Strategic Significance:
This initiative marks Lufthansa Cargo’s first dedicated freighter service to Poland, reflecting the airline’s commitment to expanding its network in emerging European markets. The choice of Katowice Airport is strategic, given its rapid growth and increasing importance in the region’s air logistics sector.
Executive Insights:
Wojciech Ryglewicz, Director of Sales and Handling for Central and Eastern Europe at Lufthansa Cargo, emphasized the importance of this development:
“The launch of regular all-cargo flights between Frankfurt and Katowice is an important step for us in further developing Lufthansa Cargo’s routes in Central and Eastern Europe. Katowice Airport is a dynamically growing airport, playing an increasingly significant role in the region’s air logistics. We are confident that the new route will enhance cargo handling and improve air transportation efficiency in this part of Europe.”
Artur Tomasik, President of the Board of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group, which operates Katowice Airport, added:
“This is a pivotal moment for the development of the cargo offering at Katowice Airport. I wish to thank the management of Lufthansa Cargo for their trust. This decision underscores the market potential and the capabilities of Katowice Airport in cargo operations. We aim to position our airport as a key hub for airfreight, especially e-commerce, in this part of Europe. We are actively working on expanding the cargo area and adding a second cargo terminal, with up to 10,000 square meters of built-up area.”
Future Outlook:
Lufthansa Cargo’s expansion into Poland aligns with its broader strategy to strengthen its network in Central and Eastern Europe. By establishing a dedicated freighter service to Katowice, the airline is poised to meet the increasing demand for efficient and reliable air cargo solutions in the region.
