Maersk has officially inaugurated the commercial operations of its multi-country consolidation centre (MCC) located in the Shanghai Lingang Free Trade Zone. This strategic move aims to boost international container transit and consolidation services within Shanghai.
The initial set of imported containers arriving from Hong Kong and Taiwan undergo consolidation at the Shanghai port before being dispatched to destinations including the US, Czech Republic, Spain, France, Portugal, and Slovakia. Furthermore, Maersk has introduced a coastal carriage service for exports, enhancing the shipping hub capabilities of Shanghai. The inaugural container cargos will journey to Shanghai aboard Maersk’s vessel, Maersk Laguna, originating from South America and then proceeding to European and US ports. Notably, this route shortens the shipping duration by seven days compared to the previous route.
Maersk initiated trial services for its MCC at Lingang in December 2023, marking a pivotal step in expanding its logistics capabilities and streamlining international container movement, ultimately contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of global logistics operations.
