Third-party logistics provider Radiant Logistics has expanded its brokerage activities with the acquisition of the Dallas brokerage operations of Whitacre Logistics Services. The business, which provides both intermodal and over-the-road transportation services, will be integrated into Radiant Road & Rail.
The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. As with many of Radiant’s previous transactions, a portion of the purchase price is linked to the achievement of future performance targets.
Jeff Vielhaber will remain at the helm of the acquired Dallas operation. He will also take responsibility for Radiant Road & Rail’s newly established independent agent development program, giving him a broader role in the company’s efforts to expand its agent network.
“We are keen to accelerate the growth of our bi-modal brokerage platform and this transaction represents a tremendous opportunity to support the acquired account base with our robust technology platform and an expanded service offering, including domestic and international forwarding, customs brokerage and a range of other value-added services,” said Bohn Crain, founder and CEO of Radiant Logistics.
The transaction is the latest in a series of acquisitions and agent-station rollups carried out by the Renton, Washington-based logistics company in recent years.
Radiant strengthened its presence in Mexico last year by acquiring a majority stake in Weport, a transportation and logistics provider headquartered in Mexico City. That transaction came shortly after Radiant acquired Transcon Shipping, a California-based ocean and air freight forwarder.
The Dallas operation brings a customer base concentrated primarily in the building materials, manufacturing and packaging industries. Its integration into Radiant is expected to provide those customers with access to a wider range of logistics services and technology.
“Radiant’s technology platform and deep bench of intermodal experience make them an ideal fit to support the business we’ve built in Dallas,” said Vielhaber. “I’m excited to bring that same customer-first approach to a broader stage, both in continuing to grow our Dallas account base and in helping Radiant expand its agent network across the country.”
The deal illustrates the continuing evolution of the 3PL brokerage market, where logistics providers are increasingly combining transportation modes and complementary services under a single platform. It also adds to the broader consolidation trend reshaping the freight brokerage sector, as companies seek greater scale, technology capabilities and more comprehensive offerings for customers.
