Scarborough Health Network has broken ground on a major construction project in Scarborough — a new emergency department at Centenary Hospital.
This project is a major expansion of the hospital’s existing emergency care infrastructure and is being supported thru more than $82 million in provincial funding.
Once finished, the new department will be over 36,000 square feet larger than the hospital’s existing emergency department, offering much more space for emergency-care operations.
The project is expected to support around 400 jobs, of which more than 300 will be in construction, and provide a significant boost to employment in the local area during the construction phase.
More funding for Scarborough health care
The emergency department project is part of a larger effort to increase the health care capacity of the community.
Ontario has also invested nearly $15 million to expand dialysis services with the installation of 27 new hemodialysis stations at Scarborough Health Network.
Twenty-one of the new stations will be located at Centenary Hospital, which will increase the hospital’s ability to provide specialized care.
The two investments are in different areas of healthcare, but they are part of a broader push to improve medical infrastructure in Scarborough.
