OTTAWA – Stantec, working with Net Zero Atlantic, has launched an open-access geospatial data platform aimed at supporting offshore wind development and energy planning across Atlantic Canada.

The platform brings together a range of information in a centralized resource that can be used by provincial governments, offshore wind developers, regulators, utilities, researchers and local communities to assess opportunities and better understand the region’s emerging offshore wind sector.

Through an interactive ArcGIS interface, users can explore geospatial maps and datasets covering offshore wind resource potential, projected generation performance, technical and economic feasibility, as well as important infrastructure considerations.

The platform is intended to turn complex data into practical insights for developers, utilities, policymakers and planners as Atlantic Canada considers how offshore wind can be integrated into its evolving energy system.

By providing broader access to information, the initiative is designed to support more transparent and evidence-based decisions around future energy infrastructure.

Stantec said the platform can also contribute to long-term energy planning while helping Atlantic Canada strengthen its position as a potential destination for offshore wind development.

“By making data more accessible and transparent, the platform supports evidence-based decision-making and long-term energy planning,” Stantec noted.

The company added that the tool could help accelerate clean energy deployment while encouraging greater collaboration between industry, government and communities.

As offshore wind development gains momentum in Atlantic Canada, access to consistent and detailed geospatial information will be increasingly important for assessing potential projects, understanding infrastructure requirements and determining how new generation capacity can fit into the region’s broader energy network.

The new platform represents a step toward providing the data infrastructure needed to support that planning process and facilitate cooperation among the organizations involved in the region’s offshore wind ambitions.
