India’s road transport sector is witnessing unprecedented momentum as massive infrastructure upgrades drive faster, more efficient cargo movement across the country.

With over $120 billion invested in road and highway development under the Gati Shakti and Bharatmala projects, logistics companies are seeing tangible gains: reduced delivery times, improved safety, and access to emerging industrial zones previously underserved by national highways.

“What used to take 7–8 days by road now takes less than 4 in many regions,” noted a Delhi-based freight operator. “It’s transforming how we serve Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.”

The rise of smart logistics parks, integrated freight terminals, and EV-friendly corridors is also shifting the landscape. Players like Delhivery, Rivigo, and Gati are accelerating fleet expansion to capture new market share as demand for B2B and B2C ground logistics surges.

The Indian government’s renewed push for multi-modal connectivity — linking road with rail and inland waterways — is expected to make India’s road freight sector one of the most dynamic globally by 2027.

This new era positions India as not just a major market, but a model for how infrastructure-led reform can unlock logistics potential at scale.
