DACHSER Enhances European Food Logistics Network with Acquisition of Brummer
DACHSER is strengthening its foothold in the European food logistics sector by acquiring Brummer, its long-time partner in the European Food Network facilitating temperature-controlled food transport between Germany, Austria, and neighboring countries.
The acquisition encompasses Brummer Logistik in Germany and Brummer Logistic Solutions in Austria, comprising the entire operational arm of the Brummer Group. While the purchase price remains undisclosed pending approval from German and Austrian competition authorities, the family-owned companies amassed approximately EUR 128 million in revenue in 2023, cementing their status among Central Europe’s foremost food logistics providers. Following the acquisition, Hans Brummer and Simone Brummer-Leebmann, the owners and managing directors of the Brummer Group, will pivot their focus to real estate management and development in the logistics sector, with their daughter, Valerie Brummer, joining them in this endeavor.
Founded in 1977 in Neuburg am Inn, Bavaria, Brummer Logistik boasts a 40,000 m2 refrigerated and frozen food facility, while Brummer Logistic Solutions, established in 2021, offers 45,000 m2 of storage space in St. Marienkirchen, Austria. Strategically located near the border, these facilities optimize transport capacity utilization and transit time efficiency for goods flowing across Europe. With a workforce of approximately 950 employees in southern Germany and Austria, Brummer specializes in cross-border transport, warehousing, and contract logistics services for food, encompassing the full temperature spectrum, including frozen goods below -18 degrees Celsius. The company also delivers comprehensive logistical solutions to retail and industrial clients.
As a founding member of the European Food Network in 2013, Brummer has played a pivotal role in providing manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers in the food market with unparalleled network coverage for groupage transports across 34 European countries under DACHSER’s leadership. This acquisition positions Brummer to capitalize on significant growth opportunities. “Brummer has been a frontrunner in food logistics in Austria and southern Germany for many years,” remarked Hans Brummer and Simone Brummer-Leebmann, joint managing directors and former owners of Brummer. “Joining DACHSER’s European network opens up new avenues for growth. By elevating our longstanding partnership, we’re fortifying our market presence, offering customers expanded cross-border food transport options and contract logistics services, and ensuring stability for our staff.”
DACHSER customers stand to benefit from access to Brummer’s distribution network in southern Germany, Austria, and Slovenia, serviced by over 350 drivers and a fleet of 300+ refrigerated trucks. “The acquisition of Brummer underscores our commitment to quality and bolsters our food logistics network in Central Europe,” stated Burkhard Eling, DACHSER CEO. “Together with recent acquisitions like Müller Fresh Food Logistics in the Netherlands and Frigoscandia in northern Europe, we’re reinforcing our position as a leading food logistics company in Europe.” The acquisition also expands DACHSER’s distribution capacity in the German-Austrian food market, with both Brummer locations strategically situated for load consolidation and optimized driving times. Upon completion of the purchase, Brummer will be fully integrated into DACHSER’s Food Logistics network, ensuring continuity under the leadership of Max Reih and his seasoned management team. “Our partnership with Brummer has been marked by mutual trust and confidence, reflecting shared values of reliability and quality,” remarked Alexander Tonn, COO of road logistics and managing director of DACHSER Food Logistics. “Brummer’s highly skilled and motivated employees are instrumental in ensuring continuity and future growth in the region, making them valuable additions to the DACHSER family.”
