Air India, SkyDrive Inc. and Suzuki Motor Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to conduct a joint feasibility study on the use of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for medical air logistics in India.

The partnership brings together SkyDrive’s eVTOL technology, Air India’s aviation and cargo expertise, and Suzuki’s extensive knowledge of the Indian market to explore new solutions for time-critical medical transportation.

The companies said severe traffic congestion in many of India’s major cities creates significant challenges for emergency medical logistics. The study will examine how eVTOL aircraft could improve last-mile deliveries of urgent medical supplies while strengthening the country’s healthcare infrastructure.

Ramesh Mamidala, Head of Cargo at Air India, said advanced air mobility represents a natural evolution of India’s rapidly growing aviation sector.

He said the collaboration reflects a shared ambition to develop practical solutions for real-world transportation challenges, adding that medical logistics is one of the most promising applications for eVTOL technology because faster delivery times can directly impact patient outcomes.

Air India will contribute its operational expertise, airport infrastructure knowledge and industry relationships to help evaluate safe, reliable and scalable eVTOL operations.

SkyDrive founder and CEO Tomohiro Fukuzawa said the company has been working to transform transportation through advanced aerial mobility since its founding. He noted that India’s traffic congestion makes medical logistics an ideal use case for eVTOL aircraft, particularly for transporting high-value, time-sensitive medical supplies where every minute matters.

Suzuki, which has collaborated with SkyDrive on technology and manufacturing, said the project aligns with its philosophy of creating smaller, lighter and more efficient mobility solutions. The company believes eVTOL aircraft could become an important addition to urban medical infrastructure while expanding future transportation options across India.

The feasibility study is another step in bringing advanced air mobility into healthcare logistics, as companies around the world explore new ways to improve the speed and reliability of critical medical deliveries.
