OOCL posted a strong performance in the second quarter with transpacific services back to growth after a slower start to the year, helping to lift revenue across its global network.

The container carrier carried 608,979 TEUs on its transpacific routes in the second quarter, up 21.5% on the same period in 2025. The result marks a significant turnaround after volumes on the trade lane had fallen 5.9% in the first quarter.

Thanks to this recovery, OOCL handled 1.13 million TEUs on its transpacific services during the first six months of 2026, representing a 7.1% year-on-year increase.

The company previously attributed last year’s weaker performance on the transpacific market to intense competition and frequent changes to U.S. tariff policies have created uncertainty and reduced import demand. Cargo volumes are starting to improve. Trade conditions are normalizing in 2026.

Across all of its services, OOCL transported 1.94 million TEUs during the first half of the year, an increase of 5.2% compared with the same period in 2025.

The transatlantic trade remained the company’s slowest-performing market, with volumes increasing by just 0.3% to 284,377 TEUs.

Financial results also improved during the first half of the year. Total revenue reached $4.68 billion, up 5.5% year on year. The only trade lane to record a decline was the transatlantic, where revenue slipped 2.7% to $354.5 million.

Total revenue increased 19.8% to $2.54 billion, with the second quarter showing particular strength.

The biggest gains came from the transpacific trade, where revenue climbed 29.3%. Revenue on Asia-Europe services increased 17.6%, while intra-Asia and Australasia services recorded growth of 16.8%. The transatlantic market was once again the only exception, posting a 1.3% decline.

OOCL also continued to expand its operations during the quarter, increasing available shipping capacity by 6.3%. At the same time, average liner revenue per TEU rose 10.1% compared with the second quarter of last year, reflecting stronger returns across much of its network.

Average revenue per TEU (consolidated) remained stable in the first half of 2026, with a slight 0.2% year-on-year increase.

The latest figures show OOCL is regaining momentum on improving market conditions and more stable trade flows, especially in the transpacific trade that has become the main driver of the company’s recent growth.
