The International Green Shipping Corridor Alliance (IGSCA) has officially been launched in Beijing, establishing what its founders describe as the world’s first non-governmental international organisation dedicated specifically to cooperation on international green shipping corridors.

The Alliance was formally inaugurated during the 2026 Global Sustainable Transport Forum in Beijing, where it was presented as an international cooperation platform aimed at supporting the green transformation of the maritime industry and advancing sustainable growth across the shipping sector.

Its activities are also intended to contribute to the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Alliance held its first general member meeting with the participation of Li Xinghu, Vice Minister of China’s Ministry of Transport, who attended and delivered remarks. During the meeting, Fu Xuyin, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Transport, was elected as the Alliance’s inaugural chairman.

The organisation was jointly initiated by the China International Sustainable Transport Innovation and Knowledge Center, Cosco Shipping Group, CMA CGM Group, China Energy Engineering Group, SIPG and other partners.

According to its founders, the IGSCA is the first non-governmental international organisation in the world specifically established to promote cooperation around international green shipping corridors.

Its founding membership includes 45 leading enterprises from 12 countries. These companies represent both upstream and downstream activities across the full green shipping industrial chain, giving the new organisation a broad international membership with diverse representation.

Coordinating international green shipping development

The Alliance’s work will focus on coordinating joint efforts to develop international green shipping corridors and strengthen cooperation between the different stakeholders involved in maritime decarbonisation.

One of its priorities will be to promote greater alignment between domestic regulatory frameworks and international standards covering green vessels, green marine fuels and green ports.

The organisation will also work to accelerate the creation of an international certification system for green maritime fuels, an area considered important for supporting the development and wider adoption of lower-carbon fuels in international shipping.

Beyond regulatory and certification issues, the Alliance plans to coordinate transport facilitation measures and develop demonstration projects with the potential to have global influence.

Its programme will also include technology research and development, the commercialisation of innovations and capacity-building initiatives.

Through these activities, the International Green Shipping Corridor Alliance aims to bring governments, companies and other stakeholders together around common approaches to green shipping corridors while supporting the broader transformation of the global maritime industry.
