Air General, a well-established air and ocean cargo handling company, has announced the closure of its Charlotte facility at 4706 Yorkmont Road, near Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The shutdown, scheduled for March 31, 2025, will impact 99 employees, marking a significant shift in the company’s operational strategy.

Operational Changes and Workforce Impact

The closure will affect a range of employees, including:
✔️ 61 warehouse workers involved in cargo handling and storage.
✔️ 38 administrative staff managing logistics operations.
✔️ Other essential roles supporting freight movement and air cargo services.

While the Yorkmont Road facility is shutting down, Air General will maintain its presence in Charlotte through two other locations, including its Lufthansa cargo operations at 3101 Yorkmont Road, Suite 2000. The company also operates a site near Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Why the Closure?

Although Air General has not disclosed full details, the decision aligns with a broader effort to optimize its cargo handling operations, possibly due to:
🚀 Changes in cargo demand at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
🚀 Industry-wide shifts in freight forwarding and logistics strategies.
🚀 Efforts to consolidate operations for increased efficiency.

What’s Next for Affected Employees?

Air General has begun notifying employees about the transition, with potential support options including:
📌 Relocation opportunities within the company’s remaining locations.
📌 Job placement assistance in the logistics and air cargo sector.
📌 Severance or retraining programs for those affected.

Industry Perspective

The logistics sector is undergoing rapid changes, with shifting cargo volumes, airline industry adjustments, and evolving supply chain demands affecting operational decisions. While facility closures present challenges, they also create opportunities for restructuring and innovation in logistics management.

Conclusion

As Air General restructures its Charlotte operations, the logistics and air cargo community will be watching how the company adapts to evolving industry trends. With new strategies for efficiency and service optimization, the company remains a key player in freight handling and cargo logistics.
