DP World, the ports, and logistics giant, has enhanced its financial incentives under the Modal Shift Programme, aimed at promoting a shift from road to rail-based freight for a more sustainable logistics system.

Initially introduced in September, the 12-month trial offered a £70 bonus per container moved via rail within 140 miles of the Southampton hub. Locations included Bristol, Cardiff, London Gateway, and Midlands/Birmingham centers.

Today, DP World announced an increased incentive of £100 per container for Q1 2024, with Q2 incentives to be revealed by end-February. The move aligns with the UK government’s goal to achieve a 75% growth in rail freight by 2050.

DP World’s Modal Shift Programme has shown early success, saving up to 4,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions and aims to prevent 30,000 metric tonnes of CO2 annually. The program underscores DP World’s commitment to providing lower carbon choices and supporting sustainability goals for its UK logistics hubs.
