DHL Express has launched a new weekly direct freighter service between Bahrain and Johannesburg, further reinforcing the dedicated air cargo link between the Middle East and South Africa and enhancing connectivity to broader international markets.
The new service was inaugurated with the first direct flight by a DHL Express Boeing 767 freighter. The new air traffic route will enhance the cargo capacity for incoming and outgoing flights at the DHL Johannesburg Hub and establish a new direct link between sub-Saharan Africa and the markets of the Gulf region.
The launch follows a continuing push by companies to expand into international markets and to focus more on resilient logistics networks. The new route is expected to support cargo flows across a range of industries including healthcare, technology, manufacturing and cross border e-commerce.
The service is targeted at establishing a direct link between Bahrain and Johannesburg to facilitate trade between Africa, the Gulf and the world, and to provide companies an alternative for the movement of time sensitive and commercially critical consignments.
“The impact of the new service goes beyond simply adding another route to DHL’s network,” said Anthony Beckley, Vise President Operations and Aviation, DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa.
“This first direct DHL service between Bahrain and South Africa is a major milestone for our network, but the real value is in the business it unlocks for our customers.”
DHL Africa said the launch was a combination of a new route, stronger connectivity and expanded opportunities for global trade, strengthening the links between South Africa, the Gulf and international markets.
