DP World names Morten Johansen to lead its Americas operations

DP World has appointed Morten Johansen as chief executive officer of its Americas region, entrusting the leadership of its operations across North America, South America and the Caribbean to an executive with extensive experience in port management and logistics.

Johansen announced the appointment in a LinkedIn post on October 13. He succeeds Brian Enright, who had held the dual positions since October 22.

A veteran leader with a wealth of operational experience

Johansen has over 25 years of experience in integrated port and logistics businesses. He joined Dubai-based DP World in 2011 and was previously chief executive officer of DP World Dominicana.

He was later chief operating officer of DP World Americas, responsible for ports and terminals, logistics services, economic zones and maritime operations throughout the Western Hemisphere.

In that role, Johansen sought ways to link physical infrastructure with the broader logistics network. His approach encompassed port infrastructure, inland transport, customs procedures, economic zones and digital platforms, highlighting the need to integrate different stages of the supply chain.

He has held senior positions at APM Terminals, Maersk and Sociedade Gestora de Terminais. Johansen, who hails from Denmark, has been based in Charlotte, North Carolina, while performing his leadership responsibilities in the Americas.

Corpus Christi project could signal a return to US terminal development

The leadership change comes as DP World looks to expand further across the Americas, including a possible new container-terminal development on the US Gulf Coast.

In June 2026 the company signed an exclusive agreement with the Port of Corpus Christi to design, build and operate a container terminal on the basis of a long-term lease. Should the project go forward, it would mark DP World’s first container-terminal development on the US Gulf Coast, and its first US container-terminal development in some two decades.

The proposed facility could eventually process some 1 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually.

Key facts remain unclear, however. DP World has not provided a start date for construction, a final commitment for capital investment, or final lease terms for the project.

$760 million development planned in the Dominican Republic

DP World is also pursuing a major infrastructure initiative in the Dominican Republic, where it plans a $760 million port and free-trade-zone development.

According to the company, the project is intended to expand cargo-handling capacity and attract investment linked to nearshoring, the relocation of production or supply-chain activities closer to end markets.

Together, these initiatives form part of DP World’s broader effort to strengthen its logistics and port infrastructure across the Americas, connecting maritime facilities with inland transportation, trade-related services and economic zones.
