FedEx is growing its road freight capabilities in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) with the introduction of dangerous goods transportation services in five markets, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman. The initiative is designed to provide businesses with additional options to move regulated commodities across the region while meeting the applicable compliance requirements.
The new capability is available via FedEx Regional Economy and Regional Economy Freight services. Shipments are still subject to restrictions and conditions depending on the commodities, their origin, destination and the regulatory context.
Eligible goods include healthcare materials, laboratory reagents, diagnostic samples, dry ice shipments, chemicals, lithium batteries and other dangerous goods. These services cater for the needs of industries with supply chains that rely on the dependable movement of specialized or regulated products such as healthcare and life sciences, energy and petrochemicals, high-tech and beauty and personal care.
“Continued industrial growth and increased levels of trade within the GCC are adding further complexity to regional supply chains,” said Taarek Hinedi, Vise President of Operations, Planning and Engineering, FedEx Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa.
“Extending our Middle East Road Network to include dangerous goods gives companies more flexibility to move essential commodities in GCC markets. “It is this capability, supported by our compliance controls, operational know-how and regional connectivity that helps industries to build more resilient and connected supply chains,” he added.
Integration of compliance and shipment visibility in regional service
FedEx Regional Economy and Regional Economy Freight offer day-definite delivery and road transportation in accordance with the applicable provisions of the European Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR). Services also include customs-cleared movements, end-to-end shipment visibility and dedicated dangerous goods handling controls.
The service provides a range of freight profiles from lightweight parcels to heavyweight palletized shipments, allowing businesses to share the same regional road network for both smaller consignments and heavier cargo.
Dubai hub connects road links across Gulf
FedEx’s Middle East Road Network is part of the company’s broader regional operations via its Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa hub at Dubai World Central (DWC) airport. This link provides air and road services throughout the region.
The company runs trucks on GCC corridors from DWC in a dedicated fleet of TIR-registered vehicles. Transport operations are GPS tracked and customs cleared. Goods are monitored 24/7 from a dedicated control tower and have end-to-end visibility throughout the journey of the shipment.
FedEx is expanding its offering of dangerous goods transportation through its regional road network, with the service being available to eligible customers for the transportation of regulated commodities across the five GCC markets, subject to the relevant operational and regulatory conditions.
