A fire that broke out aboard the Evergreen container ship Ever Lenient while berthed in Singapore was extinguished the following day, according to local authorities.
The UK-flagged vessel, which has a capacity of 9,466 teu, caught fire at around 3pm local time on 10 April while alongside at PSA’s Pasir Panjang Terminal.
On 11 April, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said overnight firefighting efforts led by the Singapore Civil Defence Force had successfully put out the blaze. Cooling operations then continued to prevent any reignition.
The MPA said all crew members had been accounted for and confirmed that no injuries or oil pollution had been reported.
PSA Singapore is supporting the safe discharge of the affected containers as part of the follow-up operation. The terminal operator has also put in place the measures needed to ensure personnel safety and keep port operations at Pasir Panjang running without interruption.
Authorities said the cause of the incident remains under investigation.
Container ship fires have drawn increasing concern across the maritime sector as incidents involving cargoes containing lithium-ion batteries continue to rise.
