Chinese tanker operator Huizhou Rongsheng Shipping is moving ahead with its long-term fleet development strategy after placing an order for four stainless steel chemical tankers at Ligong Shipbuilding (Ezhou), also known as WUT Guangda Shipbuilding.
The contract includes two 25,900 dwt vessels and two 13,000 dwt units, with deliveries expected to take place between 2027 and 2028. No financial details have been disclosed.
Founded in 2008, Huizhou Rongsheng operates a fleet of around 15 vessels, focusing primarily on the transportation of chemicals and refined oil products across China’s coastal trades, as well as inland waterways including the Yangtze River and Pearl River systems.
The company has steadily expanded its presence in the tanker and specialised shipping segment through both newbuilding orders and partnerships with major Chinese shipyards such as Hubei Hechuang Heavy Industry and China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, reinforcing a gradual diversification strategy beyond conventional dry bulk-style expansion models.
For Ligong Shipbuilding, the latest contract strengthens its position in the specialised vessel market and adds further depth to its orderbook.
The yard, established in 2017 in Hubei Province, is a joint venture between Wuhan University of Technology (WUT Ship) and Ezhou Guangda Shipbuilding. It has been expanding its shipbuilding capabilities in recent years, including the delivery of feedermax vessels for domestic owners.
This latest order reflects continued demand in China’s chemical tanker market, particularly for modern stainless steel tonnage, to support both coastal and inland industrial supply chains.
