The first dedicated international freighter service has landed at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), another major milestone in its evolution as a regional trade and logistics hub.
Hong Kong Air Cargo has launched its first ever cargo operation, directly linking Hong Kong with Navi Mumbai, marking a major milestone in the airport’s international cargo development.
The new service will be operated three times a week on an Airbus A330-200F freighter. Each flight will have a capacity of about 60 tons of cargo to support import and export traffic between the two markets.
The launch provides NMIA with a direct international freighter link to Hong Kong, one of the major logistics and air cargo hubs in Asia.
Plans for more international freighter links
The Hong Kong service is just the first step in NMIA’s plans to expand international cargo operations.
The airport expects 13 more international freighters to be added in the next phases. These new connections are targeted at enhancing connectivity between Navi Mumbai and key markets in Europe, Asia and West Asia.
The expansion is part of the airport’s broader ambition to develop a scalable cargo network to support growing international trade flows.
Cargo infrastructure enabled by technology
NMIA officials said the expansion will be supported by cargo infrastructure being developed in phases to allow capacity to expand in line with demand.
The facilities are designed to cater for a wide range of freight including domestic and international cargo, express shipments and specialized consignments.
Cargo infrastructure will include technology-enabled systems to help improve operational efficiency and support increasing volumes as more international freighter services are introduced.
Navi Mumbai International Airport has commenced dedicated international freighter operations for the first time and aims to improve its position in India’s air cargo network and connect with important global trade markets.
