Danish owner and operator Norden has expanded its fleet through the acquisition of four additional handysize bulk carriers, reinforcing its long-term strategy in the dry bulk market.
The four vessels were built in 2024 and are expected to be delivered during the second quarter of 2026. Neither the financial terms of the deal nor the identity of the seller were disclosed.
According to the company, the vessels feature open-hatch and box-hold capabilities, making them particularly suitable for handling specialised cargoes that require greater flexibility and operational efficiency.
The acquisition further strengthens Norden’s operated fleet, which currently consists of around 450 vessels worldwide. The company said the move aligns with its strategy of selectively growing its fleet in segments where customer demand remains strong and long-term market fundamentals continue to be attractive.
Norden also highlighted that the global handysize market is currently facing an ageing fleet combined with a limited orderbook, a situation that is increasing demand for newer and more fuel-efficient vessels capable of meeting evolving industry and environmental requirements.
