Super Typhoon Kong-rey is charging toward Taiwan, bringing intense winds and torrential rains in what may be one of the most forceful storms to impact the island this late in the year. Meteorologists anticipate Kong-rey to make landfall on Thursday along Taiwan’s eastern coast as a Category 4 hurricane equivalent, with its powerful winds and rain posing serious risks.
By Wednesday afternoon, authorities had already begun grounding flights and calling vessels back to shore in preparation for the typhoon. “The typhoon is approaching with intense force,” Taiwan’s premier, Cho Jung-tai, stated during a visit to the Central Weather Administration on Tuesday. He warned residents of potential landslides, flooding, and road closures, urging them to stay alert as the storm moves closer.
With Kong-rey expected to unleash severe weather conditions, authorities continue to coordinate emergency response measures and encourage communities in vulnerable areas to prepare for its impact.
