A Kuwaiti-flagged liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier has been struck by an unidentified projectile while anchored off the coast of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, adding to a series of security incidents affecting commercial shipping in the region.
According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the vessel reported being hit while positioned approximately 23 nautical miles east of Fujairah, one of the Middle East’s most critical oil storage and bunkering hubs.
Maritime security firm Vanguard Tech identified the vessel as the Gas Al Ahmadiah, an LPG carrier sailing under the Kuwaiti flag. The incident resulted in minor structural damage, though no injuries were reported among the crew.
Shipping databases indicate that the vessel is owned and managed by Kuwait Oil Tanker Company, according to data from Equasis.
The attack comes amid heightened tensions around Fujairah, which has experienced multiple security incidents in recent days.
Last Saturday, a drone strike targeting the port’s storage infrastructure caused damage to fuel tanks and temporarily forced the suspension of tanker loading operations. Port activities resumed the following day.
However, the situation escalated again on Monday when another drone attack triggered a fire, once more interrupting tanker loading activities. Authorities confirmed that no casualties occurred during either incident.
Fujairah plays a crucial role in global energy logistics, acting as a key export and bunkering hub located outside the Strait of Hormuz, making it strategically vital for oil flows from the Gulf.
