Yang Ming Marine Transport has approved a plan to order six new LNG dual-fuel container ships, continuing its strategy to modernise its fleet and reduce emissions.
The vessels will have a capacity of 13,000 TEU and form part of a broader fleet renewal programme designed to replace aging ships and expiring chartered units.
Yang Ming aims to expand its fleet to 124 vessels with a total operating capacity of 1.25 million TEU by 2032, targeting a 3–3.5% share of the global container market.
The new vessels will be compatible with the company’s existing 10,000 TEU fleet, strengthening the backbone of Yang Ming’s key East–West trade routes.
Deliveries of the LNG-powered ships are expected to begin in 2026, significantly increasing the company’s low-carbon fleet ratio.
The initiative reflects growing regulatory pressure on the shipping industry to decarbonise and improve environmental performance.
Yang Ming said the fleet renewal programme would enhance operational resilience as global supply chains continue to evolve.
