Menzies Aviation has expanded its partnership with Wizz Air to provide ground handling services at 16 airports across Europe, strengthening a relationship that began in Romania nearly 20 years ago.
The latest development follows a combination of long-term contract renewals and a significant new five-year agreement at Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport, Romania’s busiest airport.
Menzies said the renewed and expanded agreements reflect Wizz Air’s continued confidence in its ability to deliver safe, reliable and high-quality services across strategically important airports.
Under the renewed contracts, Menzies will continue providing passenger and ramp services at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport in Hungary and Václav Havel Airport Prague in the Czech Republic. In Romania, the company will also continue delivering passenger, ramp, aircraft cleaning and de-icing services at Iași and Cluj, while ramp services have been renewed at Sibiu International Airport.
The package includes five-year renewals at Budapest, Prague and London Gatwick, as well as three-year renewals at Iași, Cluj, Sibiu and Timișoara.
Alongside those extensions, Menzies has secured a new five-year ground handling contract at Bucharest Otopeni, where it will provide passenger and ramp services for more than 18,000 Wizz Air flights per year. The new operation will also create more than 180 new operational roles, further expanding Menzies’ footprint in Romania.
Miguel Gomez-Sjunnesson, executive vice president Europe at Menzies Aviation, said the broader partnership reflects the trust placed in its teams and the consistency of the service they provide. He added that as Wizz Air continues to grow across Europe, Menzies looks forward to supporting that expansion with scalable and efficient aviation solutions.
Wizz Air chief operations officer Diarmuid O Conghaile said the renewed agreements — together with the new Bucharest contract — underline the strength of a partnership that has developed over nearly two decades. He also stressed the importance of ground handling to the overall passenger experience and said Wizz Air values Menzies’ expertise and resources.
Menzies currently supports Wizz Air at the following airports: Málaga, Alicante, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, Tenerife South, Palma de Mallorca, Budapest, Cluj, Iași, Bucharest, Sibiu, Timișoara, Nice, Oslo, Prague and London Gatwick.
