Asia LNG Transport, a joint venture between MISC and NYK, has secured a long-term charter contract with Malaysia LNG for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier scheduled to enter service in 2028.
The deal is for an 18,700-cubic-metre LNG vessel being built at the Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard in China. Upon delivery, the newbuild will be deployed to deliver LNG to Japan and support the country’s energy supply requirements.
The deal was formalised at a signing ceremony held in Tokyo on October 9 with representatives from Malaysia LNG, MISC and NYK in attendance.
NYK Senior Managing Executive Officer Hironobu Watanabe welcomed the agreement and stressed the importance of cooperation between the companies involved in the project.
“We are delighted to have reached agreement on this charter. “Together with MLNG, MISC and our other partners, we will endeavour to provide safe and reliable LNG transportation services and contribute to the stable supply of energy to Japan,” Watanabe said.
“Malaysia LNG, MISC, NYK and partners have come together in a long-term charter to support reliable transportation of LNG to Japan. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2028 and deployment will commence under the agreement at that time.
