American Airlines has delivered more than 9,000 pounds of emergency relief supplies to Venezuela, helping communities recover after the powerful earthquakes that struck the country on 24 June.

The humanitarian flight departed from Miami International Airport on 2 July and landed at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Caracas aboard a Boeing 737. On board were essential supplies including bottled water, non-perishable food, baby formula, diapers, wipes, hygiene products and other everyday necessities intended to support families affected by the disaster.

The airline said the relief flight was organised shortly after the earthquakes as part of its efforts to provide immediate assistance to communities facing the aftermath of the tragedy.

“Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by this disaster, including members of our own team,” said José A. Freig, Vice President of International and Inflight Dining Operations at American Airlines.

He said the company acted quickly to coordinate the shipment of emergency supplies and remains committed to supporting Venezuela as recovery efforts continue.

The mission also reflects American Airlines’ long-standing connection with the country. Caracas became the airline’s first destination in South America back in 1987, and earlier this year the carrier restored nonstop flights between Miami and the Venezuelan capital after a seven year absence, becoming the first airline to reconnect the two countries.

Today, American operates up to two daily flights between Miami and Caracas and is preparing to resume services to Maracaibo on 14 July.

However, following the earthquakes, operations at Simón Bolívar International Airport were temporarily suspended, forcing the airline to pause its Caracas flights through 10 July. Services are expected to resume once the airport reopens to commercial traffic.

American Airlines has also introduced several measures to assist travellers affected by the disruption. The carrier has capped fares on direct flights to and from Caracas, while giving customers the flexibility to change their travel plans without additional fees, cancel eligible bookings or request refunds.

As relief efforts continue across Venezuela, the airline says it remains focused on supporting both local communities and passengers during the country’s recovery.
