General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) is preparing to introduce its Do228 NXT to the African trade show market, with two major appearances in September that will underline the company’s growing focus on Africa and the Middle East.
The German aircraft manufacturer will exhibit the aircraft at the El Alamein International Airshow in Egypt from September 8 to 10, followed by the Africa Aerospace & Defence (AAD) Expo in South Africa from September 16 to 20.
The two events will mark GA-ATS’s first trade show appearances in Africa for the Do228 NXT and the beginning of a broader commercial push into a region the company considers a high-potential market for the versatile turboprop.
Building on a strong African track record
The Do228 already has an established operational presence across the continent, with more than 30 operators in nearly 20 African countries.
The aircraft has been used to connect remote communities, operate from unpaved airfields and perform short take-off and landing (STOL) operations in demanding environments.
GA-ATS believes the Do228 NXT can build on that history by combining the aircraft’s established operational capabilities with a modernized platform designed for reliability and flexibility.
The aircraft can be configured for a broad range of missions, including passenger and cargo transportation, border surveillance, search and rescue, medical evacuation and reconnaissance.
This multi-mission capability could provide operators with the flexibility to use a single aircraft for different operational requirements, particularly in regions where infrastructure and access can be challenging.
First African static display in Egypt
The Do228 NXT demonstrator will first appear at the El Alamein International Airshow at El Alamein International Airport in Egypt from September 8 to 10.
The event will be the aircraft’s first static display outside Europe. It follows appearances at ILA Berlin 2026 and the Farnborough International Airshow, where the aircraft attracted interest from customers, industry representatives and government delegations.
GA-ATS will then travel to South Africa for the Africa Aerospace & Defence Expo, taking place from September 16 to 20.
The company will have a dedicated presence in Hangar 1 at Booth 1CW6.
Expanding focus on Africa and the Middle East
The two September events represent more than a series of trade show appearances for GA-ATS. They form part of a wider strategy to strengthen the company’s presence in Africa and the Middle East.
The regions offer opportunities for aircraft capable of operating in remote locations, on unpaved runways and under demanding environmental conditions.
With its STOL capability and ability to perform both transport and specialized missions, the Do228 NXT is being positioned by GA-ATS as a flexible platform for operators facing diverse operational requirements.
The company sees the aircraft’s existing African user base as an important foundation as it seeks to expand the Do228 NXT’s presence across the continent and establish new commercial opportunities in one of the world’s developing aviation markets
