Fujian Shipbuilding Group’s Mawei Shipbuilding and Southeast Shipbuilding have signed a contract with Norse Shipholding for four firm 1,800 teu feeder container vessels, with options for two more.
The new-generation ships will measure 172 metres overall, with a beam of 28.4 metres, a depth of 14.5 metres and a design draft of 8.5 metres. Classed by DNV, the vessels are designed for unrestricted global navigation and will have a carrying capacity of 1,800 teu.
According to the shipbuilder, the ships will be able to carry dry cargo containers, reefer containers and certain types of dangerous goods containers.
Each vessel will be fitted with two 45-ton cranes. Fujian said the ships will offer advantages over conventional container vessels, including easier loading and unloading, lower port charges, higher speed, lower fuel consumption, greater cargo capacity and strong operational flexibility.
Fujian Shipbuilding Group also pointed to its long-standing experience in the feeder segment, noting that it has already delivered hundreds of container ships across a wide range of sizes, including 700 teu, 1,100 teu, 2,900 teu and 3,700 teu designs.
The shipbuilder said Mawei Shipbuilding and Southeast Shipbuilding will continue to work closely with Norse Shipholding throughout the project in order to ensure smooth execution and high-quality delivery.
