Skyways Air Services has moved up from 44th to 42nd place in the global air freight ranking. Its weight in India’s air export market has grown slightly too. The latest chargeable weight data from WorldACD Market Data puts its share at 6.3% in the second quarter of FY2026-27, up from 6.2% in the previous quarter.

For Yashpal Sharma, Chief Executive Officer and CMD, the result says most about customer confidence. Holding the title of India’s No. 1 air freight forwarder while climbing to 42nd worldwide reflects the trust shippers place in the network and the commitment of the operating teams, he said. Passing the 6.3% mark in an “unpredictable macro environment” also shows, in his view, the resilience of the asset-light model and the company’s ability to secure reliable capacity when shippers need it most.

Sharma pointed to the momentum in Indian manufacturing and outbound merchandise exports. Skyways, he said, wants to do more than extend its network. It is working toward a more integrated, technology-enabled logistics platform, with stronger digital adoption, better links between the capabilities of the supply chain and seamless global connectivity for Indian enterprises.

Time-sensitive cargo and long-term capacity

The company credits operational agility and capacity management for its progress in a period of global supply chain disruption, fluctuating aviation fuel costs and shifting geopolitical trade routes.

Growth during the quarter came mainly from time-sensitive, high-yield shipments: temperature-controlled pharmaceuticals, automotive components and electronics. Demand on the key corridors linking India with Europe, the Middle East and North America also supported performance.

Behind these volumes are long-term capacity agreements with global carriers, among them Emirates SkyCargo, Lufthansa Cargo, Saudia Cargo, Turkish Cargo and Air India Cargo.

Skyways 2.0: digital tools and Asia-Pacific ambitions

The Skyways 2.0 strategy has a strong digital component, built around the ASAP, SLS 100X, Cargo Dash and Skart-Edge platforms. The aim is to bring air and ocean freight, express logistics, customs clearance, road transport and warehousing together on a single, more connected logistics platform.

The company is also working on its international footprint, with plans for a stronger presence across the main Asia-Pacific trade hubs. It is pursuing dedicated operations and joint ventures in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and mainland China, building on its position in India’s air export market.
