UPS is reshaping its senior leadership team and global operating structure as Kate Gutmann, executive vise president and president, International, Healthcare and Supply Chain Solutions, prepares to retire for personal family reasons.
Gutmann will depart from her current position after almost 37 years with the company, during which she held various leadership roles and was known for her strong focus on customer service and operational performance.
Over the past six years, she has been a driving force in the expansion of UPS’s footprint in complex healthcare logistics and has helped build the company’s global healthcare capabilities.
She also guided UPS’s international business through significant changes to US trade policy, while maintaining healthy operating margins across the three business segments she oversaw.
Carol Tomé, UPS’ Chief Executive Officer, praised Gutmann’s impact on the company.
“Kate represents the best of UPS. She has been an advocate for our customers, has strengthened our global capabilities and has delivered outstanding results throughout her career. “I’m so thankful for her leadership, wisdom and partnership. “September 1 will be her last day in her current role, but I’m glad that Kate will continue to be a strategic advisor through March 2027,” said Tomé.
Reflecting on her career, Gutmann highlighted the journey that led her from an internship at UPS to leadership assignments across the globe.
“I’m very thankful for my journey at UPS, starting with an internship and progressing to assignments all over the world. Thank you to my family for their support and to the executive team and our amazing employees for their unmatched drive and commitment. “I am proud of what we’ve built together and the difference we make every day in helping our valued customers be successful in the global marketplace,” Gutmann said.
She will be succeeded by UPS veteran Wilfredo Ramos, who will become Executive Vise President and Chief International, Healthcare and Supply Chain Solutions Officer.
Ramos most recently led UPS’s Asia Pacific and Brokerage businesses. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the company, having held senior leadership roles in multiple regions and business units, delivering business growth, operational efficiency, and customer-centric innovation.
UPS is changing its global operating model
The leadership moves come as UPS enters the next phase of its transformation. Now that the company’s Amazon volume reduction and network reconfiguration initiatives were successfully completed in June 2026, the company is focused on driving profitable growth.
UPS will transition from a largely international organization to a fully global enterprise, with a new operating model that will enable it to better leverage its worldwide network.
The new structure is intended to enable UPS to serve customers with greater consistency, agility and scale while facilitating its continued transformation from a small-package carrier to a provider of integrated logistics solutions.
The new model will enable UPS to standardize core operational processes across its various regions while still providing the flexibility to meet specific market needs.
Nando Cesarone has been named Executive Vise President and Chief Global Operations Officer, to run the new structure.
In his new role Cesarone will be responsible for UPS’s global air network and gateways, surface transportation, building and engineering operations, Intelligent Network of the Future initiatives, automotive operations and sustainability functions.
Matt Guffey has been appointed Executive Vise President and Chief U.S. Domestic Officer. He will run the company’s U.S. businesses, including Small Package, Roadie, Happy Returns, The UPS Stores and Mail Innovations, the company said.
UPS also created the new position of Executive Vise President and Chief Global Commercial Strategy Officer. The role will be responsible for global strategy, marketing and communications, product management and pricing.
The company said it is seeking an executive to fill the new position.
