Emirates SkyCargo is set to strengthen its presence in emerging markets with the launch of a dedicated weekly freighter service to Almaty International Airport in Kazakhstan, marking the company’s first cargo destination in Central Asia.Scheduled to begin operations on June 16, 2026, the new service will be operated by a Boeing 777 Freighter and will connect Almaty directly to Dubai, creating a strategic air cargo corridor between Central Asia and Emirates SkyCargo’s extensive global network. The move represents a significant milestone for the airline’s cargo division as it expands into a region that is increasingly attracting attention as a growing commercial and logistics hub. As Kazakhstan’s largest city and one of Central Asia’s most important economic centres, Almaty plays a critical role in regional trade and cross-border commerce.Operating every Tuesday, the new freighter service will offer more than 100 tonnes of cargo capacity per week. The route is expected to support the transportation of a diverse range of commodities, including electronics, machinery, perishables and consumer goods.By providing a direct connection between Almaty and Dubai, Emirates SkyCargo aims to give exporters and importers in Kazakhstan and neighbouring countries greater access to international markets through its worldwide logistics network.Commenting on the launch, Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, highlighted the strategic importance of the new route.“Emirates SkyCargo’s weekly freighter service to Almaty is in line with our role as a global trade facilitator and is an important step in expanding our network and connectivity to Central Asia, a region that is experiencing dynamic growth,” he said.“Our flights will provide new opportunities for businesses in Almaty and the surrounding region to scale their international operations while allowing our global customers convenient and rapid wide-body cargo connectivity to a strategic marketplace. The expansion into Almaty supports our long-term growth strategy and D33 Dubai Economic Agenda objectives, accelerating foreign trade and Dubai’s standing as a global logistics hub.”The introduction of the Almaty service forms part of Emirates SkyCargo’s broader plan to expand its freighter operations in response to growing global demand for air cargo services.Since March 2026, the carrier has taken delivery of four new Boeing 777 freighters and expects six additional aircraft to join its fleet before the end of the year. Once these deliveries are completed, Emirates SkyCargo anticipates operating a dedicated freighter fleet of 21 aircraft by December 2026.The airline believes the additional capacity will strengthen its position across major trade corridors while improving connectivity between established markets and fast-growing economies.Beyond its dedicated freighter network, Emirates SkyCargo continues to leverage the bellyhold capacity of Emirates passenger aircraft, allowing the carrier to offer extensive cargo coverage across six continents. Combined, these operations provide customers with multiple routing options through the airline’s Dubai hub.The addition of Almaty underscores the growing importance of Central Asia within global supply chains. It also reflects a broader industry trend as airlines seek to enhance connections between the region and key manufacturing, distribution and consumer markets around the world. With the new route, Emirates SkyCargo is positioning itself to capture increasing trade flows from a region that is becoming an increasingly important link in international logistics networks.
