Hillwood, a Perot company, has broken ground on a new logistics facility near Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD), marking the first stage of its Rockford Logistics Park 20 development.
The project will deliver 334,800 square feet of flexible industrial space located just one mile from the airport. Designed to accommodate either a single company or multiple tenants, the building will serve businesses involved in air cargo, warehousing, distribution, light manufacturing and assembly.
By adding new industrial capacity next to one of the Midwest’s busiest cargo airports, the development aims to strengthen the region’s logistics network and create additional opportunities for companies looking to improve their supply chain operations.
Zack Oakley, Executive Director of Chicago Rockford International Airport, said the project fits naturally with the airport’s continued cargo expansion. “Businesses will have more space in the new facility and the chance to leverage Rockford’s dedicated cargo infrastructure and strong regional connectivity to the fullest,” he said.
Why Rockford? “Strategic location, efficiency and direct access to an established air cargo network,” said Hillwood. “These benefits continue to bring in logistics providers, manufacturers and distribution companies that want reliable access to key U.S. markets.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2027.
Chicago Rockford International Airport has become an increasingly important cargo gateway in the United States. Ranked among the country’s 20 largest cargo airports by gross landed weight, it handles around 85 freighter flights every day while offering a fast and uncongested operating environment.
With 24/7 operations, average taxi times of just five minutes, on-site customs clearance, self-handling options and significant room for future expansion, the airport continues to position itself as an attractive alternative for air cargo operators serving Chicago, the Midwest and international destinations.
