Brussels Moves to Protect European Shipowners from Double Carbon Costs

Brussels Moves to Protect European Shipowners from Double Carbon Costs

European shipping companies will not be required to pay twice for their carbon emissions under both European Union and International Maritime Organization regulations. That was the clear message delivered by European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas during the official opening of Posidonia 2026 in Athens.  Addressing one of the maritime industry's biggest concerns, Tzitzikostas sought to reassure shipowners that Brussels is fully aware of the financial pressures associated with decarbonisation and intends to prevent any duplication of carbon-related costs as the IMO develops its global emissions framework.  “I want to be clear: European companies will not pay twice, both in Europe and...

The Elevator Pitch for Third-Party Shipmanagement: Outsourcing Complexity, Not Control

Shipowners who have never handed vessels to third-party managers often share the same instinctive hesitation: loss of control. For many, the fleet is not just an asset base but the core of their business identity, reputation, and in some cases, family legacy. The idea of delegating day-to-day operations can feel like stepping away from the bridge.  Yet within the global shipmanagement industry, a consistent message has emerged. The strongest argument is not...

Knutsen Group is further accelerating the expansion of its LNG fleet with a new order placed at South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean, reinforcing what has become one of the most aggressive growth strategies in the LNG shipping segment.  Hanwha Ocean confirmed on Friday that it had signed a contract worth approximately $250m for a 174,000 cu m LNG carrier, scheduled for delivery by September...
