Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has taken a major step toward sustainable shipping by adding liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered vessels to its global fleet. These vessels are part of MSC’s ambitious decarbonization strategy aimed at cutting greenhouse gas emissions across its operations. The LNG-powered ships will primarily serve transatlantic and Asia-Europe routes, two of MSC’s busiest shipping lanes, where demand for sustainable logistics solutions is increasing.
The new LNG vessels are expected to reduce sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and CO2 emissions compared to traditional fuel options. MSC’s CEO, Soren Toft, stated, “Our commitment to reducing environmental impact aligns with customer demand and our responsibility as an industry leader.” The company has also implemented AI-driven routing optimization to further reduce fuel consumption on these routes. By committing to cleaner energy sources and technology-driven efficiency, MSC demonstrates its dedication to addressing climate concerns within ocean cargo logistics.
