Walmart and Wing target Denver and Seattle as drone delivery network expands

The companies plan to extend aerial deliveries to more than 270 Walmart stores nationwide by 2027, building on an existing service across five U.S. metropolitan areas and a pipeline of additional markets.

Walmart is preparing to bring its drone delivery service to Denver and Seattle, marking another step in its partnership with Wing as the retailer works to expand rapid, aerial delivery across the United States. The two companies expect to launch services in both metropolitan areas in 2027, according to a Wing announcement.

The planned expansion forms part of a broader strategy to make drone deliveries available from more than 270 Walmart stores nationwide next year. Walmart and Wing currently operate in five U.S. markets, with around a dozen more markets identified for future expansion.

The move follows plans announced earlier this year to extend drone delivery to an additional 150 Walmart locations during 2026. That rollout reflects the retailer’s growing interest in using aerial transport to get groceries and other everyday purchases to customers more quickly.

For Walmart, the expansion is intended to give shoppers another convenient way to receive urgent purchases. Greg Cathey, the company’s senior vice president of eCommerce transformation, said in a statement: “Expanding drone delivery to Seattle and Denver is about giving more customers a practical option when they need something quickly.”

The service is already available in the metropolitan areas of Houston, Atlanta, Dallas–Fort Worth, Orlando and Charlotte. Walmart and Wing have also identified several markets as the next potential additions: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Cincinnati, New Orleans, St. Louis and Tampa. However, the companies have not yet announced precise launch dates for these locations.

Faster delivery for everyday purchases

Wing’s aircraft are designed to travel at speeds of up to 60 mph and transport packages weighing as much as five pounds. The eligible goods include fresh and packaged groceries, making the service suitable for selected everyday shopping needs.

Once drone delivery is available in a customer’s area, orders can be placed through Walmart’s app or website. Customers can also order directly through the Wing app, according to the companies’ announcement.

The expansion into Denver and Seattle therefore represents another milestone in Walmart and Wing’s effort to scale their drone delivery network nationwide, with the planned addition of locations across multiple U.S. markets supporting their ambition to reach more than 270 Walmart stores in 2027.
